Our annual Christmas Yoga Retreat is a perfect way to escape the madness — spend this holiday practicing yoga, meditating and rejuvenating along a serene private beach in Mexico — with sun, sea, surfing, horse-backriding, paddle-boards, kayaks and a group of like-minded, multi-cultural yogis!

Flow of the Day

MORNING

Wake to the rhythmic sound of waves and intricate chorus of tropical birds with a cup of tea overlooking the ocean. Stroll the beach or take a morning swim before heading up to the Jungle Studio for a morning of body, mind and soul replenishing. Join one or both back-to-back yoga classes: Mindfulness Meditation & Gentle Yoga with Sylvia Ferguson and Vinyasa Yoga with Josie Sykes.

AFTERNOON

Free time to enjoy the sunshine and waves! Head out for sea-kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, surfing or horseback riding. Trek into the forest to a hidden waterfall, take a Mexican cooking class or journey inward with a shaman-led temazcal, followed by a healing massage in the ocean-side spa. A delicious buffet lunch is served from 1:30-2:30, followed by just enough time for a hammock siesta!

EVENING

At sunset, reconvene for Hatha-Alignment with Sylvia and gentle nervous system balancing yoga class with Josie. Following our sunset session is dinner on the ocean view terrace at Xinalani — a three-course gourmet meal featuring inspired and traditional Mexican recipes, designed for the healthy lifestyle of a yogi. After dinner take a moonlit stroll on the beach, gather with friends around a bonfire or even try your feet at salsa.

We will be taking our mats to one of Ireland’s most beautiful parks, Marlay Park, every Wednesday and Friday morning at 9.30am from Wednesday 10th July to the end of August.

Where?

We will be in Marlay Park in the large open field very close to the main car park on Grange Road. This is the car park that serves the main house, the courtyard and market and the coffee shop. From the car park we are a 2 minute walk to the left, beside the Iron Man under the big tree. Turn left upon entering the park, walk over the river and you'll see us on the left. Don't worry if you run late, just come and join us. 

When? 

Wednesday and Friday mornings, 9.30-10.30am, July and August. First class is Wednesday 10th July. 

What if….?

If it rains leave your mat in the car and throw on your rain coat. We’ll meet in the same place for a guided mindful meditation walk through the forest. Posture, breath work, a focus for your thoughts and off we go … a rejuvenating walk through the leafy pathways. Some of our walk will in be silence … a challenge for all of us ;-)

How do I book?

Please book with me in advance; there is a limit to the number of participants. You can prepay your first four classes here: €35 for 4 weeks, or please contact me directly to book your place. 087 6822362.

What do I bring?

Please bring everything you need … a yoga mat is optional if it is warm and dry. A small folded blanket can be nice. Warm layers are always recommended, even if it looks lovely when you leave your house, Marlay can get a very cool breeze. SPF to protect your beautiful face. Water. Money if you fancy something delicious afterwards. If it’s raining dress for rain! 

Always bring your open mind and your smile :-)

Advanced Yoga Workshop: a detox for breath, body, mind

Advance your yoga.

Take time to deeper into pranyama (breathwork) to compliment a strong vinyasa yoga flow with an emphasis on twisting and detoxing. Twists on the full exhale are said to be very cleansing, like wringing out a cloth. We will lengthen and soften and flow to allow fresh movement in the inner body, deep breaths to re-oxygenate, vibrant poses to awaken and revive the entire body. Emerge feeling brand new.

Not suitable for complete beginners, pregnant students or anyone with injuries, the practice will be instructed (as always) for mixed abilities. From new to advanced, all poses will have options and modifications: you are the guide for what feels right for you.

This practice will strengthen and tone your entire body especially the back and abdominal muscles. You will sweat and burn calories. You will stretch tight muscles and release tension from the body and the mind. You will breathe more deeply during and afterwards. You will massage your inner body and stimulate your digestive system. I recommend an empty stomach for your practice (last meal around 11am or have a light snack around 1pm). If you aren’t sure if you are suitable please check with me (I will most likely tell you you are!)

Restore and Renew

Make time for yourself!

Now, more than ever, you need to carve out some time for yourself. Time that doesn’t include shopping, eating, drinking or talking. Time to come back to yourself, to restore and renew, so you can re-emerge ready to sparkle!

December’s monthly two hour yoga workshop in The Park Community Centre is on Saturday 15th December, 2-4pm. We will start with pranyama (breath-work) to encourage a quietening of the thoughts. We will move thoughtfully through a full-range-of-motion practice to stretch and relax tight muscles and release tension in body and mind. This practice will be dynamic in doses, a vibrant yoga flow. We will come to lying very comfortably to rest deeply in Yoga Nidra - a practice that is said to offer the same therapeutic benefits to the body as three and a half hours of your deepest sleep. And for the mind …. a little break and a little adventure, a floating of the thoughts.

Yoga Workshop: The Park Community Centre

Yogis, it’s time to up your game!

In a one hour class we take our bodies through full range of motion, exploring breath work, greater strength and ease in our movements and sometimes new shifts in awareness. In a two hour practice we can go so much deeper. 

Explore what happens to your body and your mind when you move closer to the edge of your comfort zone. 

All workshops are mixed ability but not suitable for complete beginners to yoga. If you are not sure, please check with me. 

We progress safety though the practice, there is no pressure to do the ‘peak pose’. 

Handstand workshops are particularly beneficial for core strength, shoulder alignment, and for creating energy and a positive mood that lasts for days! 

Places are limited: we are restricted to 20 participants max so we each have our own wall space. 

First workshop is Saturday 15th September, 2-4pm, The Park Community Centre. €20.

MORNING

Begin at a leisurely pace with an Italian cappuccino, then breathe in pure peace during a morning serenity walk through the green Umbrian countryside. Our group convenes in the borgo’s former chapel, our sacred space to practice yoga and meditation. Every day begins with a meditation and a gentle Vinyasa yoga flow that accommodates all levels, while emphasizing safety, awareness, intelligence—and the joie de vivre of yoga!

AFTERNOON

Lunch on our Luxury Umbria Holiday is a mouthwatering gourmet salad or other light dish—farm to table with produce harvested straight from Borgo’s garden and paired with a delicate white Umbrian wine. Afternoons are free to enjoy the mediterranean life: a massage, a swim, lounging with a book, or a good long siesta. And for those who would like to explore the region more, we invite you on two excursions: a wander through Gubbio, one of Italy’s most beautiful and intact medieval villages, and wine-tasting at a stunning 10th-century castle. And last but not least, step into a cooking presentation with our amazing Chef Lucca Mazza! 

EVENING

At sunset each day, we reconvene for a rejuvenating and informative yoga workshop, this time focusing on alignment, pranayama and poses to restore your nervous system. Sylvia has a strong background in yoga nidra; with her guidance, you will reach a place of pure relaxation, in between sleeping and waking. Fully restored and reenergized, we then enjoy an aperitivo and an elegant, 4-course wine-paired Italian dinner that will leave no question as to the precise meaning of “La bella vita”!

Sleep in history and luxury!  Borgo di Carpiano is a former countryside castle turned 10-room boutique villa set in the Italian countryside. Once its own tiny village, our private borgo is a cluster of 10th-century cut-stone buildings, set on a hillside of oak, olive and lime trees. Yoga Workshop: The Park Community Centr

Yogis, it’s time to up your game!

In a one hour class we take our bodies through full range of motion, exploring breath work, greater strength and ease in our movements and sometimes new shifts in awareness. In a two hour practice we can go so much deeper. 

Explore what happens to your body and your mind when you move closer to the edge of your comfort zone. 

All workshops are mixed ability but not suitable for complete beginners to yoga. If you are not sure, please check with me. 

We progress safety though the practice, there is no pressure to do the ‘peak pose’. 

Handstand workshops are particularly beneficial for core strength, shoulder alignment, and for creating energy and a positive mood that lasts for days! 

Places are limited: we are restricted to 20 participants max so we each have our own wall space. 

First workshop is Saturday 15th September, 2-4pm, The Park Community Centre. €20.

You can prepay here by selecting 2 x €10 class passes or pre-book with me in any class.

Late afternoon we re-convene for a relaxing and rejuvenating restorative yoga, pranayama and meditation session.

Stay in an ancient castle villa!

Our historic villa dates back to the beginning of the X century, when it belonged to Rovaldo Baldassini, father of Sant’Ubaldo, patron saint of the town of Gubbio. The villa is located near the picturesque medieval town of Gubbio, the chapel of St Francis of Assisi, and the famous city of Perugia in Umbria. The property consists of different cut stone buildings leading down to a lovely pool, organic garden and spa overlooking a pristine valley of olive trees and lush woods. The former church, with historic architecture and original frescoes, is our sacred space to practice yoga and meditation!

The rooms are traditional and charming, set in a mood characteristic of Italian countryside, with all the amenities that make your stay perfectly comfortable! There is a lovely pool to lounge by, a warm jacuzzi and massages, an organic garden and endless countryside to wander and explore!

Yoga classes are led by Irish guest teacher, Sylvia Ferguson — morning classes a gentle yoga flow and afternoon sessions focused on alignment, pranayama, restoratives and yoga Nidra. Our yoga programs emphasize safety, awareness, intelligence—and the joie di vivre of yoga!for a dynamic yoga flow practice, with classes accommodating a variety of levels while providing challenge and learning for everyone!

AFTERNOONS begin with a mouth-watering gourmet salad and light lunch followed by free time to lounge by the pool, relax with a massage, read or siesta. Learn about the Umbrian kitchen in a villa cooking class with the amazing Chef Lucca Mazza. Visit a nearby 10th-century castle to taste a variety of Umbrian wines. For those wishing to visit the medieval towns of Assisi, Perugia or Gubbio, you may hire your own car or a private driver. At sunset each day we re-convene for a rejuvenating and informative yoga workshop and pranayama.

EVENINGS are pure magic, as we have a sunset aperitivo and elegant Italian dinner style under the stars—appreciating la bella vita!

Cooking & Wine Taste

On our Mediterranean-style retreats we try for a good balance of retreat time, down-time and a taste of local cultural. Our experience on this retreat is that most people are perfectly delighted to stay at the villa to enjoy the peace and luxury of the countryside, pool, exquisite food and wine. Others who may have traveled a great distance or are experiencing Italy for the first time, may want to see an ancient medieval town or taste wine on a family vineyard. To give you full freedom to find just the right balance for you, we treat you to an in-villa cooking class with master chef Luca Mazza, and offer a local add-on wine-tasting at a beautiful 10th-century castle twenty minutes from the villa (reserve). For those who would like to explore the region we suggest either renting a car or hiring a local driver.

200hr Teacher Training Open Workshop with Q & A

Thinking about ways to deepen your Yoga practice and learning how to teach? We would love to invite you to sample what you can expect at our training.

Together we’ll learn how to create a yoga sequence and begin to think like teachers. Intelligent Sequencing requires an understanding of the human body, and a real sense of economy in movement. Expect insightful advice and the opportunity to discuss a variety of ideas with other students.

Be prepared to reveal your inner teacher while also discovering new ways to modify and deepen your own yoga practice. The practice will end with a Q & A with some of our teacher trainers.
